Although often a quick, routine addition to our schedule, a "pink eye" presentation to a layperson can end up being anything from viral conjunctivitis to iritis to high pressure to devastating orbital cellulitis. Due to varying etiologies, the examination, differential diagnoses, and treatment regimens vary. In this lecture, an ophthalmology referral center optometrist and pharmacist will walk the attendee through diagnostic criteria and treatment protocols for a wide range of unilateral and bilateral "pink" eye.
Learning Objectives:
Upon conclusion of this activity, attendees will be able to:
Identify various types of conjunctivitis and the appropriate treatment for each
Determine corneal causes of red eye and the appropriate treatments for each
Assess anterior causes of red eye such as iritis and the treatments for each
Evaluation and treat patients with high IOP causing red eye
Evaluate and assess orbital causes of red eye
Manage inflammatory vs infectious causes of red eye and the differing treatment regimens for both
