As part of the educational hours some states require Doctors of Optometry to complete a 2-hour course relating to prevention of medical errors as part of the licensure and renewal process. This course will discuss root-cause analysis, error reduction and prevention, and patient safety within the Optometric practice setting.

Upon conclusion of this activity, attendees will be able to:
Become aware of potential medical errors within the health care delivery system
Analyze root causes of medical errors in an Optometric Office
Discuss ways of preventing medical errors from occurring in an Optometric Practice.
Understand the importance of prevention of medical errors as part of the licensure and renewal process
Understand the importance of prevention of medical errors as it relates to patient safety within the Optometric practice setting
Review the Code of Ethics for AMA and AOA in relation to medical errors prevention
